This is Turov on Timing for Monday, February 11, 2008.
PUBLICATION NOTICE: I will be flying into Los Angeles Monday night, arriving at midnight; then driving home to San Diego, arriving there about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning (5:30 a.m. Eastern time). As soon as I return home, I’ll start downloading data, but then I’m going to sleep while the data downloads. When I awaken in the morning, I’ll analyze the data and issue a TOT report.
The SPX declined 5.62 points Friday to close at 1331.29. TOT daily traders were on the sidelines for the session.
TOT daily traders have outperformed the SPX in 20 of the past 32 weeks.
Since initiation of the Turov on Timing service on September 30, 1993, our daily trader recommendations have gained 10001.59 cumulative SPX points, compared to a gain of 872.36 points in the index itself over the same period. That’s a ratio of 11.46 to one.
The super long term perspective for the stock market remains bearish (as it has been since January 2000), and it’s unlikely anything will change that for several years.
The intermediate term model remains bullish.
Friday was an interesting day as both the Dow and SPX were solidly down, while NASDAQ was solidly up. As if we needed more confusion…
If the SPX is in negative territory at 10:45 a.m., Eastern time, the probability is fairly high that the selling will continue for the balance of the session. TOT daily traders are advised to go 300% short at the market at 10:45 a.m. IF AND ONLY IF the SPX is down on the day at that time. If it is up at 10:45, stay on the sidelines. If you go short, use a 10 point protective buy stop. If you are short and are not stopped out, cover your position on the close and go overnight flat.
Thanks for the opportunity to be of service, and I’ll email you again Tuesday morning (as per the publication notice at the top of the page).
