This is Turov on Timing for Friday, March 30, 2012.
A good day for the home team as the SPX declined 2.26 points yesterday to close at 1403.28. TOT daily traders went 400% long near the low of the day at SPX 1394.40 and have carried the position overnight and into today (in anticipation of a modestly strong opening).
Since initiation of the Turov on Timing service on September 30, 1993, our daily trader recommendations have gained 13211.97 cumulative SPX points, compared to a gain of 944.35 points in the index itself over the same period. That’s a ratio of 13.99 to one.
The super long term perspective for the stock market remains bearish (as it has been since January 2000 after having been bullish from December 1974 until then). When the current cyclical bull market ends (and at present, my best educated guess is that it will end in late 2012 or early 2013), expect another nasty crash to perhaps finally bring an end to the long term bear market that began in 2000.
The Intermediate Term Model remains bearish. The next 50 point SPX move is more likely to be down than up, although I do not believe we have seen the high for the year yet.
TOT daily traders come into today’s session 400% long. Futures are up a tad as I write this, and that is good. Raise your protective sell stop to SPX 1402. If the SPX advances to 1406 before declining to 1402, raise the stop to SPX 1404. If still long at 9:45 a.m., take your profit at that time and move to the sidelines from 9:45 until 10:45. At 10:45, go 300% short at the market; once short, use a 10 point protective buy stop on the position. If still short as we approach the close, cover the short on the close and go into the weekend flat.
